Showcase is a musical theatre company open to anyone aged 16 or over who successfully passes an audition.

The company was started by John Wright and Bobby Harvey in 1985 to raise money for charity using the musical skills and talents of some of the best "non-professional" performers in Edinburgh and the surrounding area. The aim is to produce a highly entertaining and professional show incorporating a wide variety of musical styles.

Since 1991 we have performed an annual show in the Church Hill Theatre and during that time Macmillan Cancer Support have been our chosen charity and we have raised in excess of £210,000 for them. We are considered by Macmillan Cancer Support to be one of their major supporters within the Lothians and Scotland as not only do we raise much needed funds but we also help them by increasing awareness of their objectives and achievements.

The company also performs a series of concerts throughout the year to help augment its fundraising activities and annually entertains over 2000 people.

Showcase members show their support in the best way they can - by singing!

Practical Information

If you are considering joining Showcase as a performing member, here's some practical information:

• auditioning is a two step process. First of all, an audition to join the company. This means singing a song of your choice, and giving us a bit of information about yourself. If successful, you will be invited to join Showcase. You can then further audition to be a soloist or dancer in our next production.
• members pay an annual subscription, and have a commitment to sell tickets for the show.
• our main show is the last week in September, in the Church Hill Theatre.
• in addition, we normally put on a couple of fundraising concerts in May, and a couple of Christmas concerts.
• rehearsals are Thursday nights during the summer, with additional Tuesdays for soloists and dancers (as required). In September, the entire company is required on Sunday afternoons, and Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
• we rehearse in St Michael's Church Hall, Slateford Road, Edinburgh.
• ultimately, we have a great time, a great social life, put on a great show... and we raise around £10,000 a year for Macmillan Cancer Relief!
